CASINO AND RICHMOND AMALGAMATION

Thomas George, Member for Lismore today welcomed the Minister for Local Government, Harry Woods' decision to conduct a public inquiry into the joint application by Richmond River Shire Council and the Casino Council for their amalgamation.

"I support the Minister's resolution as the results of the inquiry will then be used to determine whether the Boundaries Commission will be appointed to settle once and for all the issue of amalgamation as proposed by both Councils" Mr George said.

Both Councils need to know their future prior to the September Local Government Council Elections to enable proper determinations to be made on their future to remain independent or to amalgamate under a voluntary agreement.
