AWARDS FOR LEADERSHIP IN ABORIGINAL COMMUNITIES OPEN

Thomas George, Nationals Member for Lismore, today announced nominations were open for the Premier's Excellence Awards for Leadership in Aboriginal communities.
Mr George said he encouraged any individual, team or organisation within the Aboriginal community in the Lismore Electorate to nominate.
"These awards recognise the strong leadership and tireless efforts of Aboriginal people in New South Wales," Mr George said.
The awards aim to recognise individuals or organisations demonstrating leadership and excellence in delivering services to the community in the following categories: -
- Strong Communities – Family Support and Assistance Leadership excellence in programs focused on the support and assistance of Aboriginal families.
- Education – Learning and Knowledge Leadership excellence in programs focused on improving learning and education of Aboriginal communities.
- Health and Wellbeing – Body and Mind Leadership excellence in programs focused on improving the physical and/or mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities.
- Economic Participation – Getting On With Business Leadership excellence in programs focused on improving business, employment and job training opportunities for Aboriginal communities.
- Building Community Leadership excellence in programs which contribute to sustainable economic or social development of Aboriginal communities.
- Youth Leadership – Leaders of the future Recognising young Aboriginal people (aged 15-35) who demonstrate excellence in their development of leadership skills.
Mr George said the Awards were designed to recognise not only projects based initiatives but also continuous improvement programs undertaken within Aboriginal communities by individuals, teams or organisations.
"They are also designed to create public awareness of the level of expertise and excellence in leadership in Aboriginal communities," he said.
Nominations close on 28 October 2010.
