THOMAS GEORGE ANNOUNCES $35 000 FOR THE LISMORE ENVIRONMENT

The Lismore environment will benefit from a $35 000 environmental grants from the NSW Government’s 2011/12 Environment Trust program, Local Member Thomas George announced today.
“The grant of $35 000 has been awarded to the Banyam/Baigham Landcare Group for the Banyam/Baigham restoration and cultural awareness project”, Mr George said.
“These projects and the many others like them across New South Wales are making a real difference to local environments at the grass roots level’, he said.
“'Banyam/Baigham project involves building on a revegetation and interpretive walkway project. The project aims to restore and rehabilitate riparian vegetation, freshwater wetland and floodplain forest, develop landcare group skills in environmental restoration by working with professional bush regenerators.
This will increase community awareness, knowledge and skills about Aboriginal cultural practices and provide a connection for people back to the land,” Mr George said.
“This project and the many others like them across New South Wales are making a real difference to local environments at the grass roots level.”
The Environment Trust is an independent statutory body established by the NSW government to support exceptional environmental projects that do not receive funds from the usual government sources.
