Lismore Echo
Last week the new Return and Earn bulk collection point for 100+ containers opened at the Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre in Wyrallah Road.
This facility now compliments the Lismore & Goonellabah reverse vending machines, which are proving very popular. Lismore is rated #2 in regional NSW for returns with over 1.2 million to date.
Applications are open for the 2018/19 round of the Public Reserves Management Fund (PRMF) program.
The PRMF program provides support for Trust managers throughout NSW to maintain, protect and improve our Crown reserves, including local parks, community halls, regional showgrounds and holiday parks, for the benefit of the entire community.
Funding is available to support a wide range of activities, including repairs and maintenance, pest and weed control, new recreational infrastructure, and environmental initiatives.
Applications close on Friday 9 March 2018 and information can be found at www.crownland.nsw.gov.au
Last week the Premier Gladys Berejiklian & Minister Melinda Pavey released the NSW Government’s Road Safety Plan.
The comprehensive package addresses speeding, drink driving, drug driving, driver distraction, driver fatigue, truck safety and funding to improve safety on country roads.
The measures announced today include:
- Expanding the mandatory alcohol interlock program
- Police will be given the power to issue on the spot fines and licence suspensions for low range drink driving
- Amending legislation to allow camera technology to be used to enforce mobile phone offences;
- 11 additional heavy vehicle average speed camera locations
A review into driving on prescription drugs has been requested by April and the NSW Sentencing Council will be tasked with reporting back on sentencing of repeat traffic offenders who may pose an ongoing risk to the community.
