Review of Firearms Act
Echo 15 July 99
I am pleased to be back in the electorate now that NSW Parliament is in
recess. I am looking forward to attending various functions and being available
to meet with constituents. Last week I enjoyed the opportunity to attend the
signing ceremony to commemorate the establishment of the joint appointment
between St. Vincent's Hospital and the Southern Cross University. This
formalisation of the historical agreement resulted in Dr John Stevens academic
becoming the first joint appointment in Nursing and Health Care Practices in a
private rural hospital in Australia.
Review of Firearms Act
The aim of the review is to determine whether policy objectives of the 1996
Firearms Act remains valid, and whether the terms of the Act remain appropriate
for securing those objectives. Interested parties are being asked to make
written submissions on the Act particularly on its practical implications.
Closing date is 30 October 1999.

comments by to Monday 30 August 1999.
Historical Speech
Following the presentation of my inaugural speech in State Parliament on 29
June, I was honoured to learn that providing there are no by-elections held
before the end of the year, I will have made the last inaugural speech in the
NSW Parliament this century.
Tim Hands Hat To Anderson
I have written on behalf of the Lismore electorate to pay tribute to Tim Fischer
following his resignation recently as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for
Trade. Tim will always be remembered with great respect for his dedication and
outstanding loyalty in serving Australia, the Party and his constituents.
Congratulations have been extended to John Anderson, Member for Gwydir on his
new appointment as Leader and Deputy Prime Minister. Locally, we had the
privilege of demonstrating to John Anderson the value and significance of this
region when he officiated the opening of Primex `99. Also, on your behalf I have
extended well wishes to Mark Vaile, Larry Anthony and Warren Truss for their new
positions in the Ministry.
