Casino Beef Week
Echo 3 June 99
Casino Beef Week
Beef Week was again a tremendous success drawing thousands of visitors to Casino
- "The Beef Capital". There were many highlights including the Led Steer
Competition drawing entries from Chinchilla, Queensland in the North, to Umina
and Singleton in the South. Congratulations to each and everyone who contributed
in any way, the success of Beef Week 1999 is made possible by the spirit of the
community and its organisers. This unique celebration again reinforces that for
any promotion to be successful the community need to support the event. So I
encourage everyone to attend this weekend's Lismore Fun Festival, being
coordinated by Lismore Unlimited. Organisers work very hard in putting these
events together so the least we can do is to patronise these functions.
Police Medals and Awards Presentation Ceremony
One of the most rewarding duties for Richmond Commander Superintendent Barry
Audsley is to recognise and praise the hard work of his police officers as
stated at the recent ceremony. Police Officers do it tough and don't often get
the respect and recognition that they deserve. This ceremony is the once a year
applaud for our local officers, volunteers and staff. We also must pay tribute
to the families who are there to support these Officers all the time.
Daylight Saving
The Carr Government is proposing to extend Daylight Saving, without consultation
with rural and regional NSW, to accommodate the 2000 Olympics. I don't believe
the Premier has given any consideration to interstate discrepancies or to our
rural farming communities, who will be getting up well before sunrise and many
country school children will be waiting for school buses in the dark. The
National Party have objected very strongly against any extension to Daylight
Saving.
Debutante Ball
Rhonda and I had the pleasure of attending the Catholic Debutante Ball,
recently. We were very impressed at the camaraderie of more than thirty
Debutante's and their partners. This event brought tears to the eyes of many
very proud parents' witnessing the presentation.
