Happy New Year

Happy New Year
I would like to congratulate everyone for the spirit in which New Year Eve
celebrations were conducted. Many people from all walks of life and communities
joined together harmoniously to see in the year 2000. I am sure this year will
hold many challenges and opportunities for each of us and I look forward to
assisting the people of my electorate in any way that I can.

I am pleased to provide local students chosen as ambassadors for our region
with an exchange student package to use during their endeavours overseas.

a term of 4 years, with the Committee meeting every two months. Nominations are
being sought and interested persons should contact Lisa Walker on 6627 0209.

Casino Resident Sees Three Centuries
I was honoured to attend the 104th birthday celebrations of a special Casino
resident and my former teacher, Sr Germaine Ruhl on 28 December 1999. A couple
of days later Sr Germaine was amongst the elite few who had lived through three
centuries. Born in 1895, Sr Germaine has seen many changes through the 1900's
and now the advancement into the new millennium. Congratulations to Sr Germaine.
Paralympics
NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, The Hon John Watkins has been
appointed as 'attache' to the Australian Team for the Sydney 2000 Paralympics
Games. Minister Watkins will provide an integral link between the team, the
Government, sponsors and the corporate community.
Churchill Fellowships 2001
The Churchill Trust is calling for Australians over 18 to apply to undertake
an overseas study project that will enhance their usefulness to the Australian
Community. No prescribed qualifications are required, merit being the primary
test based on past achievements or demonstrated ability for future achievement.
Closing date is 29 February 2000 and further information can be obtained by
contacting my office.
New Year Resolution
I have clearly defined my Year 2000 resolution, to continue to vigorously
pursue the Carr Government for funding for the Lismore electorate's health and
road systems. I will continue to lobby the Minister for Health and the Minister
for Roads to allocate much needed funding. The Lismore electorate desperately
needs extra funds for these two vital systems. It is imperative that an
allocation be made in the very near future to remedy the current unacceptable
situation.
Best wishes to everyone for a very prosperous 2000 and please do not
hesitate to contact me at the office on 6621 3624.
