Natural Disaster Hits Casino
Following last weeks devastating storm in Casino and surrounding districts,
I wish to congratulate and thank the many workers and volunteers who contributed
valuable time and energy to helping those most affected. The professional
combination of both Department of Community Services, police and state emergency
service people in establishing the Disaster Recovery Centre was commendable and
greatly assisted the quick and organised clean up of the town. This type of
devastation certainly brings a community together and highlights the value of
community spirit. In accordance with the declaration of a Natural Disaster,
there are various assistance schemes, with details on guidelines and eligibility
available from my office. The Disaster Recovery Centre/Centrelink Office are
assessing cases and can also be contacted on 6660 2025. Furthermore, building
works and minor repairs should be undertaken by appropriately qualified
tradespeople.
