Casino Show
Express Examiner 25 October 2006
Casino Show
I was pleased and saddened to attend my last Casino Show as the representative
for the Casino area. Congratulations to Doug Devitt and Kathryn Ivaschenko and
their committee for organising such a successful event for 2006. It was great to
see so much support for the Show from exhibitors and the local community.
2007 Lismore Electorate Woman of the Year
Nominations are now open for the 2007 Lismore Electorate Woman of the Year
awards. The awards recognise the achievements and leadership of women in
business and their local community.
As previous winners have shown, there are many in women in our local community
whose contributions, successes and achievements encourage and inspire those
around them. Honouring women for their contribution to our communities is an
important means of building the confidence and pride of all women, and
encourages other women and girls by publicly presenting role models
All nominees will be invited to a presentation function to announce the Lismore
Electorate Woman of the Year, who will also be presented with an engraved silver
goblet. An invitation will also be extended to the winner to attend the
Premier's Reception, (alongside other winners from across NSW) where the NSW
Woman of the Year will be announced.
Nominations forms are available from my Electorate Office. The closing date for
nominations is Wednesday 22 November 2006.
Rehabilitation Unit
I appreciate the support I have received from the community regarding the
Rehabilitation Unit. The outcome local representatives and Mayors have been
trying to achieve in regard to this issue is to keep the delivery of rightly
deserved and greatly needed health services near to Casino residents. Please be
assured I will continue to pursue this issue until an appropriate outcome is
achieved.
Electorate Boundary Changes in 2007
Electoral redistributions occur periodically to ensure electorates remain
similar in population size. Last year it was announced the Lismore electorate
would be altered to include Murwillumbah, whilst Casino would become part of the
Clarence electorate. Other areas including Lismore, Kyogle, Nimbin and west of
the range remain in the Lismore electorate. It should be noted, the revised
boundaries do not take effect until the March 2007 State election.
Further information about the redistribution is available from the State
Electoral Office website at www.redistribution.seo.nsw.gov.au
Countrylink Booking Fees
It has recently been announced that the current unfair Countrylink Booking Fee
imposed by the State Labor Government will be abolished under a Coalition
Government in NSW. The fee has placed an unfair financial burden on pensioners
using the Countrylink service and in particular those in country areas who often
have to travel to essential services.
The fee was introduced in March this year and is 15 per cent of the full adult
fare or a minimum of $10 which ever is the greater and is charged on each
voucher used. The NSW Coalition will remove this unreasonable booking fee for
those travelling on Countrylink pensioner travel vouchers.
Premier's Gala Christmas Concert - Limited Tickets
I have limited tickets available for the Premier's Gala Christmas Concert to be
held on Wednesday 6 December 2006 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. There are
two sessions, one at 10.30am and another at 2.30pm. Members of Parliament are
provided with ten double passes to distribute amongst seniors in our electorate
and I have a limited few remaining. Anyone interested in these tickets should
contact my office as soon as possible.
HSC Examinations
I would like to extend my good wishes to year twelve students in the area who
will commence their final examinations on 19 October. Best of luck to you all
and I hope you achieve the results you have worked so hard towards
